Then we size it, before any price. Never a proposal straight off a phone call. Where something already exists, we look at the real thing and count it. Where nothing does, we define it — the screens, the users, the rules, and what belongs in phase one. Usually that is free. Where there are years of records to count it is a short paid review instead, and if you go ahead that fee is subtracted from the project price.
A written proposal. Scope, deliverables, phases, timeline and a fixed price — built on what we measured rather than on a guess, which is the only way a fixed price is safe for either of us.
